Does the Spaten taste any different in the homeland? I saw a picture of Lowenbrau, I don't think you can get that in the states anymore. I remember in high school when that was high rolling beer.
Seriously though, all of the beer here is unpasteurized. It's also fresher. The beers brewed in Munich tend to have much more malt character than most beers you will get. They even tend to be a little sweet. And the Lowenbrau you were drinking in High School was probably brewed by Miller. Lowenbrau licensed their name to a bunch of different breweries in different countries, hich led to the beer having a less than stellar reputation.
The last couple of beers that I showed were Oktoberfest beers, so they are a little bit maltier and stronger than average beer.
